Personal Checks Still as Popular as Ever
When you have completed that step, you can move to the next part. The date field should be completed with the current date. Never post date a check or retro date it. This provides not only accurate bookkeeping for you, but it will also prevent the receiver problems at the bank.
Next, how much will you be writing a check for? You’ll need the exact dollar and cents amount that you’ll be paying to the company or individual. When you write a check, it’s a little bit different to write numbers than you might for other situations. For example, if the check is for $5.97, you’ll write a “5″ and then the fraction “97/100″ in the space immediately next to the payee (or “Pay to the order of”) line. In the space immediately below that, you’ll write out the amount textually, like so “Five and 97/100.”
The bottom two lines are important as well. The first is the memo field, and this is to remind you what the payment was for, or for your account number when you pay your bills. Make sure that the information is clear and concise in this area so everyone understands what the payment is for with your personal checks.
